After a quiet and unknown offseason, Our Motorsports has finally announced its first driver for the 2023 NASCAR Xfinity Series season in Texas veteran David Starr.
Starr ran the majority of last season with SS Green Light Racing in the No. 08. He will run select events in the No. 02 for Our, beginning with the season opener at Daytona International Speedway next weekend.
Our is downsizing from three full-time cars to one this year. However, it will run the No. 23 later this season on a part-time basis. It ran the No. 02 with Brett Moffitt and a variety of drivers, the No. 23 with Anthony Alfredo, who is headed to B.J. McLeod Motorsports, and the No. 27 with Jeb Burton, who is racing with Jordan Anderson Racing for the upcoming Xfinity campaign.
Our will have other drivers yet to be named in the No. 02. Starr brings sponsorship from Fox News’ reporter Brett Baier, who hosts “Special Report.”
“After 25 years in the sport, I am so honored to still get the opportunity to run in one of NASCAR’s top series. Since I was a young boy, this has been a dream of mine, and it is awesome to still be living out this dream,” Starr said in a team release. “That burning desire to race, compete, and win is still alive for me, and I would like to continue to race as long as I can.”
The team says it will use motors supplied by ECR Engines and chassis from Richard Childress Racing and Stewart-Haas Racing. It may be Starr’s best chance to have top-15 finishes in several years as he has recently competed with many backmarker teams, including MBM Motorsports and Jimmy Means Motorsports.
